Most children Talia Joseph’s age would set up a lemonade stand in order to make a little extra cash on the side from their allowance, but Talia had something different in mind. She wanted to create her own business to make money, not for herself, but to donate to the community in which she lives to make the world a better place. One of the two organizations that she chose to benefit from her sales is Keshet.

With help from her mom, Talia brainstormed what kind of business she could create. Talia’s mom listed all of the things that Talia likes, such as sports, making things and kindness. Talia wanted to sell something to get money for the charities that she loves, and that’s when she came up with the idea to sell hats. Hats are one size fits all and anyone can wear them.

Talia began her business, Kindness Counts, just over one month ago. In that time, she has sold more than 140 hats that have shipped all over the United States and even to Thailand.

On October 8, 2018, Talia stopped by Solomon Schechter Day School in Northbrook to take a tour of the Keshet classrooms and education programs that are provided at the school. When asked what she thought of her tour, she said, “I thought it was really cool and I really like seeing how all of the students learn and communicate. I liked watching and learning about all of the things that they use and seeing all of the things that people made for everybody.”

Talia plans on continuing to sell her designer hats in support of Keshet, and hopes to one day become further involved with the organization when she is old enough to volunteer with Keshet’s buddy sports programs.
