Keshet provides highly individualized and integrated education programs at seven sites throughout Chicago and the north shore from kindergarten through age 22.

Pre and Elementary Schools

Programs are integrated into several area pre and elementary schools. The Ariella Joy Frankel Keshet Day School is held at the Solomon Schechter school in Northbrook and the Yeshivas Tiferes Tzvi program is integrated into the host school in Chicago.

We believe in maximizing each student’s potential while fostering caring communities in which students learn and grow. Therefore, we maintain a dual focus on developing students academic and daily living skills while also integrating them into their home community. Occupational, physical, and speech and language therapists, and social workers are on staff to meet the needs of each student.

Dr. Irving A. and Ruth Hokin Keshet High School

The Dr. Irving A. and Ruth Hokin Keshet High School program at Ida Crown Jewish Academy prepares high school students with special needs for life beyond the classroom walls. Each student receives an individualized education plan, designed to teach and enforce the skills necessary to succeed in professional and daily life as well as to establish a sense of personal and academic autonomy. 

To help students make the transition from high school into the workforce, the Keshet High School works with a vocational specialist who coordinates job training and experiences for the students within their community, providing a foundation of skills carried on through the Coe-Worker Keshet Transition Program.

Students in the Dr. Irving A. and Ruth Hokin Keshet High School program are part of the Ida Crown Jewish Academy community. Keshet students participate in academic classes, lunch, assemblies and other special events side-by-side with their Ida Crown peers. Relationships are built and nurtured both within and outside the walls of the school building. Friendships between Keshet and Ida Crown students are long lasting and meaningful, and provide opportunities to put into practice the social skills that are taught and built through the Keshet school experience.

The Coe-Worker Keshet Transition Program

The Coe-Worker Keshet Transition Program is designed to provide the necessary support to ease the transition into the community for young adults (ages 18-21) after they complete high school. The Coe-Worker Keshet Transition Program curriculum continues participants’ education in areas of life enrichment, social skills, recreation and vocational training.  

Vocational skills taught in middle school and high school are built upon and enriched through the Transition Program curriculum. Participants discuss job interests and learn the skills needed to be successful at the job of their choice. As participants approach the point of “aging out” (at the age of 22), the team works together with the family to prepare a plan to ease the transition from the structured school-like setting into a day program or job setting.  

Keshet has a vast network of business partners within the local community that welcome Keshet’s young adults with respect and understanding, and provide meaningful employment opportunities. Meanwhile, participants gain a further sense of self-worth by seeing the positive difference they can make in a business setting.

Daily living skills, problem solving, accessing recreational/social opportunities, cooking, and adopting a strong work ethic are all part of a comprehensive program that prepares our young adults for the next stage of their life as they get ready to exit the formal education system.
